Because the product remains flexible, it can move with the crack rather than fighting every millimetre of movement. The trade-off is appearance: the caulked line remains more visible than a blended resin fill. Many owners accept that visibility for better movement performance on active or joint-related cracks.
High MPA concrete resin repairs fill prepared cracks with a high-strength resin system that can sit flush with the surrounding surface. Once professionally sealed, the repair often blends in better than flexible caulking — ideal when kerb appeal is the priority and movement risk is lower.
The main limitation is honesty about the future: if ground movement continues (common on reactive clay or settling sandy sites), resin may crack again along the same or nearby line. That means the slab moved again — not that the repair “failed for no reason.” We recommend resin where appearance matters and you understand ongoing movement can reopen cosmetic fills.
Choose flexible caulking when movement is likely and you can accept a visible joint line. Choose high-MPA resin when you want the repair to blend more cleanly after sealing and understand that further ground movement may reopen the crack. We recommend the better fit for your slab — not a one-size sales pitch.
Cosmetic crack repair without sealing is only half the job. Filling or caulking closes the open line; professional sealing — typically as part of a full driveway sealing or outdoor concrete protection job — protects the broader slab, reduces moisture entry, reduces the risk of concrete cancer and helps the repaired surface wear more evenly under harsh seasonal conditions, salt air and traffic.
Unsealed concrete still absorbs water at and around the repair, driving concrete cancer and accelerated wear.
